Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the most common questions we encounter. If your question is not answered here, reach out to us via the Contact page.
How do I make an appointment?

You can make an appointment by emailing admin@briopsychology.com or by phoning 0422 012 926. Just provide your name and a contact telephone number and we will get back to you about an appointment that suits. Keep in mind that we may be with clients when you call so it is not unusual that you will need to leave a voicemail.

Do I need a referral before I make an appointment?

You do not need a referral to make an appointment. You can obtain a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) referral from your GP or Psychiatrist to receive a rebate for up to 10 psychology sessions per calendar year.

How do the Medicare rebates work if I have a Mental Health Care Plan?

If you have a MHCP you will receive a rebate for 10 psychological therapy sessions. After attending six sessions with a psychologist, you will then need to see your GP or psychiatrist for a review so that you can access an additional four Medicare rebated sessions. With a MHCP, Medicare will provide a rebate between $96.65 and $141.85 to help cover the cost of appointments.

How do I make a Medicare Claim to receive the rebate?

At Brio Psychology, we can lodge your Medicare claim if you have registered your account details with Medicare. This is a seamless process where the rebate automatically goes back to your bank account without you needing to contact or visit Medicare. Alternatively, if you would like to claim through a Private Health Fund, we will provide you with an invoice containing all of the necessary information for you to claim through your private insurer.

What should I expect from an appointment for psychological therapy?

We hope to create a space where anyone attending an appointment feels safe, comfortable and supported. Sessions go for 50-minutes. The first 1-2 sessions are spent getting to know you, your personal history, and an understanding of your current difficulties and symptoms. These sessions are the assessment phase of therapy. Assessment is important for determining the treatment plan and strategies that are going to be best for you. Following assessment, treatment sessions begin.

Do you offer telehealth appointments?

Yes, we offer appointments via Zoom or telephone for anyone who like them. Telehealth sessions have become more commonplace during COVID lockdowns but are also available for any occasions when it is difficult to attend the clinic in-person.

What is the Cancellation Policy?

At Brio Psychology, we kindly request a minimum of 48 hours' notice for appointment cancellations. This policy ensures consistency of care for our clients, as well as allows us to offer the appointment time to other clients who may be waiting. By implementing this policy, we aim to respect both the scheduling needs of our clients and the availability of our therapists.
